Community Guidelines

Last updated: 3 June 2026

Welcome to Event Countdown. These Community Guidelines explain what we expect from everyone who uses the app — especially when sharing calendars with others or creating videos to share elsewhere.

We've kept this short and plain. The full legal rules are in our Terms of Service, but these guidelines cover what matters most in everyday use.

The basics

Event Countdown is a place for sharing the things you're looking forward to — weddings, birthdays, holidays, exams, the birth of a child, big trips. Most people use it to mark moments that matter to them and the people they love.

Three things we ask of everyone:

  1. Be kind to other people. This includes the people who join your shared calendars, the people you share videos with, and anyone whose name you mention in an event.
  2. Use the app for what it's for. Counting down to events. Not for harassment, scams, or spreading harmful content.
  3. Look after your account. Don't share your sign-in details, don't pretend to be someone else, and don't use the app if you're under 13.

What isn't allowed

The following types of content and behaviour are not allowed anywhere in Event Countdown — including event titles, descriptions, calendar names, the names you choose for yourself, and any video you create that bears our watermark.

Child safety

We have zero tolerance for any content that sexualises, exploits, or endangers children. This includes:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), in any form, including AI-generated or manipulated images
  • Content sexualising minors, including grooming behaviour
  • Soliciting personal information, photos, or contact from minors
  • Sharing identifying details (school, home address, schedule) of children in ways that could put them at risk

We report suspected child sexual abuse material, grooming, or child exploitation to relevant authorities and reporting bodies where required or appropriate, including the UK Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), the National Crime Agency / CEOP, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), and law enforcement. Accounts involved are permanently banned.

Harassment, bullying, and threats

  • Threatening, intimidating, or trying to scare anyone
  • Bullying or harassing an individual
  • Sharing someone's personal information (address, phone number, workplace) without their consent
  • Content that names someone with the apparent purpose of inviting others to harass them
  • Stalking or repeatedly contacting someone who has asked to be left alone

Hate speech

Content that attacks, dehumanises, or incites violence against people based on:

  • Race or ethnicity
  • National origin or immigration status
  • Religion
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender or gender identity
  • Disability
  • Age
  • Serious medical condition

This includes slurs, dehumanising imagery, and content that promotes discrimination.

Violence and dangerous content

  • Threats of physical violence or content that incites it
  • Promotion of terrorism, extremism, or organised crime
  • Graphic, gratuitous, or sadistic content
  • Content celebrating real-world violence
  • Sale or trade of weapons, ammunition, or explosives

Self-harm and suicide

  • Content that promotes or glorifies suicide or self-harm
  • Detailed methods or instructions for self-harm
  • Promotion of eating disorders
  • Dangerous "challenges" likely to cause serious injury

If you or someone you know is struggling, please contact a crisis service. In the UK: Samaritans (call 116 123 free, any time). In Ireland: Samaritans Ireland (116 123) or Pieta House (1800 247 247). In the US: 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Elsewhere, search for "suicide helpline" plus your country.

Sexual content

  • Nudity or sexually explicit material
  • Sexual content involving minors (always prohibited; see Child Safety)
  • Non-consensual sexual content
  • Sexual solicitation
  • Content that depicts or shares intimate imagery of someone without their consent

Event Countdown is a family-friendly app. We hold sexual content to a stricter standard than some other platforms because many of our users are children, families, and people celebrating personal milestones.

Illegal activity

  • Promotion of illegal drugs or controlled substances
  • Sale or trade of regulated goods (firearms, alcohol, tobacco, prescription medication)
  • Fraud, scams, phishing, or deceptive schemes
  • Gambling promotion or unlicensed gambling
  • Counterfeit goods or services
  • Any activity that breaks the law in your country or ours (United Kingdom)

Spam and deception

  • Repeated, unwanted invites or messages
  • Coordinated fake engagement or false reviews
  • Impersonating another person, organisation, or brand
  • Misleading claims that could cause real-world harm
  • Phishing attempts or links to malicious sites

Privacy violations

  • Sharing someone's personal information without their consent
  • Posting photos or videos of someone in private situations
  • Sharing private communications

Intellectual property

  • Using copyrighted material (music, video, images) you don't have the right to use
  • Trademark infringement
  • Passing off someone else's work as your own

If you believe your IP has been used without permission, file a report at https://root38.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new (choose the Copyright / IP notice form) with the details listed in our Terms of Service.

Misuse of the app

  • Hacking, reverse-engineering, or attempting to break the app
  • Using automated scripts or bots
  • Scraping data from the app
  • Distributing malware
  • Creating accounts for the purpose of evading bans

A note on Create Video

When you create a video using Event Countdown:

  • The video is saved on your device, not on our servers
  • When you share it (to TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.), it goes to that platform's servers, not ours
  • We add a small Event Countdown watermark to videos created by users without a paid subscription
  • You are responsible for what you create and where you share it

You must not use Create Video to:

  • Create content that breaks these Guidelines
  • Impersonate someone in a way that could deceive others
  • Create deceptive deepfakes or manipulated content presented as real
  • Use our watermark on content that violates these Guidelines (this damages our brand and is grounds for account suspension)

A note on sensitive personal information

Event titles, descriptions, and notes you share through Event Countdown can sometimes reveal sensitive information about you or others — for example, medical appointments, religious or political events, exam dates, children's schedules, addresses, or relationship milestones.

Please do not include sensitive personal information in event titles, descriptions, or shared calendars unless you are comfortable with everyone who has access seeing it. We particularly ask you not to include sensitive information about other people (especially children) without their knowledge or permission.

A note on Shared Calendars

Shared Calendars are a way to invite people you trust to view (or, with editor access, edit) a calendar of events. When you create a Shared Calendar:

  • Only people you invite can see the calendar
  • We do not make Shared Calendars publicly searchable
  • Calendar owners can remove members at any time
  • All members and guests must follow these Guidelines

If you've been invited to a Shared Calendar and someone in it is behaving inappropriately, you can:

  • Report the content or person using the report button
  • Leave the calendar at any time — you'll no longer see any of its events or members

If you're the calendar owner and someone is misbehaving, you can:

  • Remove them from the calendar — they lose access immediately
  • Block them from rejoining the calendar via any share link

These tools are designed to handle most situations where you might encounter another user's content. Because Shared Calendars are private and invitation-only, you typically only see content from people who have invited you or accepted your invitation. If a problem continues after leaving or removing — for example, repeated unwanted invites, impersonation, or ban evasion — please file a report at https://root38.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new so we can take further action.

How to report

The quickest way is the in-app Report a Concern button, which opens our reporting form. You can also file directly at https://root38.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

To report a calendar, event, or member you can:

  • Tapping "Report a Concern" on any shared event, calendar, or member profile
  • Choosing a category:
    • Child Safety, Harassment, hate speech or threats
    • Sexual or Adult Content
    • Spam, Scam or commercial misuse
    • Impersonation or sharing private information
    • Self-harm or Dangerous Content
    • Other
  • Adding details if you want

We aim to review reports within 48 hours, and within 24 hours for anything tagged as child safety.

If you'd rather email us, the address is support@root38.zendesk.com — we'll route it to the right place.

For copyright or trademark concerns, use the same form and choose Copyright / IP notice.

We may also act without a report

We may review content and take action even when no report has been filed — for example, if our automated systems flag something for review, if we receive concerns from another channel (such as Apple, a regulator, or law enforcement), or if we become aware of widespread issues. The same actions and appeals process apply.

What happens when content is reported

When we receive a report, we'll look at the content and decide whether it breaks these Guidelines. We may:

  • Take no action if the content doesn't break our rules
  • Remove the content
  • Warn the user with an email explaining what was removed and why
  • Restrict the user's ability to share content for a period of time
  • Permanently ban the user for serious or repeated violations

Decisions involving child safety, threats of violence, or coordinated harassment usually result in immediate permanent bans.

If you think we've made the wrong call, you can ask us to look again by replying to the email we sent within 14 days of our decision. We'll review and let you know our final decision within 7 days of receiving your appeal.

What happens if we get it wrong

We try to be fair, but we're a small team and we'll make mistakes. If we remove content or restrict your account and you think it was unjustified, reply to the email we sent you or file a new report at https://root38.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new with the details and we'll review.

We never share who reported you. That said, repeated bad-faith reports (using the report system to harass others) is itself a violation of these Guidelines.

Updates to these Guidelines

We'll update these Guidelines from time to time as the app grows and as we learn from how people are using it. When we make meaningful changes, we'll let you know in the app and at the top of this page.
